Pakistan’s Climate Minister visits the BGC Lab: exploring climate action collaboration

On March 3rd 2026, the BGC Lab welcomed a distinguished guest: the Federal Minister for Climate Change of Pakistan, Musadik Mashood Malik, accompanied by his undersecretary. The visit provided an opportunity to discuss pressing climate challenges and explore potential ideas for research collaboration.


During the meeting, Minister Malik offered an overview of the situation in Pakistan, highlighting the severe impacts the country has been experiencing as a result of climate change. He outlined the government’s ongoing efforts to mitigate and adapt to these challenges, emphasizing the importance of a comprehensive strategy that integrates policy reforms, technological innovation and strong international cooperation.


In response, the laboratory team - led by Team Leader Moreno di Marco and welcomed by the Director of the Department of Biology and Biotechnologies, Rodolfo Negri - presented the lab’s main research lines, focusing on the connections between climate dynamics, biodiversity and zoonotic risks.



The discussion were marked by a spirit of openness and collaboration, with both sides acknowledging the urgency of addressing the climate crisis and its far-reaching consequences. In this context, Minister Malik and the BGC Lab team explored several opportunities for future collaboration, including student exchange initiatives, joint training activities and the sharing of innovative ideas and research approaches to tackle common climate-related challenges.
