5th European Conference on Ecological Restoration(SERE 2026)

Last week Valerio Mezzanotte, a member and PhD student of the Biodiversity and Global Change Lab, attended the 15th European Conference on Ecological Restoration(SERE 2026) in Brest, France. The congress brought together researchers, policymakers and practitioners from all of Europe to share ideas and  practice, discussing the future of restoration in a crucial moment of the Nature Restoration Regulation planning. Valerio gave an oral presentation about his work, soon to be made public as a pre-print, entitled "Biological vs socio-economic drivers of restoration site placement in Europe." His work highlights the main drivers behind restoration sites placement in Europe to date, providing important information for policymakers in the context of the National Restoration Plans. As part of the Conference all the participants were able to visit during a field trip multiple local restoration sites across different parts of Bretagne, undertaken on multiple ecosystems. Of course, the conference was also the occasion to establish new connections and meet researchers from different backgrounds, fostering interdisciplinary exchange.
